Hey everyone, I’ve taken a few weeks to decompress before writing this.

Last month during the May layoffs at Meta, I was one of the people who was given an offer to stay on in an IC role or to take the package. I know how fortunate I am to have been given a choice when so, so many of my talented colleagues did not have that luxury. I truly wish it was given to everyone. So I feel a bit guilty that I decided to leave after 9 years at Meta.

I had to weigh a million different factors, do the math, write down my pros and cons and speak to a thousand people: My family and friends, my colleagues (both current and former), my mentors, my lawyer and accountant and therapist. What I came away with was that I knew in my gut that it was time for me to make a change, to be brave. I know the job market is so tough right now, but I also know that it was my time to go. It was, without a doubt, one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make.

I have tremendous amounts of gratitude for what that company has given me, most notably the gift of working with the smartest, most capable people on the planet, many of whom I am proud to call lifelong friends. But if I am honest, the last year broke my spirit and I need to get it back and do some soul searching!

I am not yet ready to jump full steam ahead into the job search just yet, but I would so love to reconnect with those in my network who are interested in catching up! If you are one of them, please hit me up in DM. #openforwork

I have had to learn the hard way that your job is not your identity. It's how you make ends meet and hopefully how you grow (professionally). There are a lot of stories about how "your company won't love you back." That's been a tough but important lesson for me to learn. But while the company has to do hard things, the people you met along the way absolutely will love you back. And this LinkedIn community is testament to that. Please keep doing what you are doing and we'll keep looking out for each other.
