Deep connection to one place can give rise to respectful connection to places around the world. No single place is more special than another in global terms. But some connections can be seen more clearly, perhaps.

I found one of those connections here, on the shore of an alpine lake. Every relationship in nature is magnified and rarefied here. Lying on the small strip of sand between glacier water and willows, I examined the shoreline. I saw evidence of the ancient sea floor that comprises the mountain's bones; I saw tiny bits of insect bodies and wings; I saw fluffy tendrils of mountain goat hair; pieces of yarrow, little sticks of willow, limber pine bark; tiny crystals and (unfortunately) fishing line. I followed the journey of an ant, and listened to the hum of flies. Each piece of the picture could be traced to something in this small basin, a small ecosystem now bursting with life in the springtime.

I thought of this as a microcosm for the interconnections of the land and sea, and a luckily pure one still, yet the wind currents bring air pollution and humans bring plastic. No place in the world is alone or pure. The massive power of the wind, the tenuous nature of the melting glaciers, and the tenacity of mountain goats and pika adapting to the changing environment sank deep into my core.

There are so many ways that this connection can be cultivated, and as a kid I found it in dandelions and delicate wild Texas primroses, fire ants and slugs. But I am fortunate to have experienced the value inherent to a place, and felt the power of a place overwhelming all human life.

My goal since I was a child has been to help people connect to this feeling inside themselves. My talent lay in touch; in acupuncture and shiatsu. But I was brought to that world via the plants, the herbs that enliven our senses and heal us directly. Now I am thrilled to embark upon the journey to bring herbs from Thailand that maintain this sense of wholeness and of place- bring them to many people in the form of external herbal therapies, wrapped in woven cotton and imbued with knowledge to help bring us back into our bodies.

This has been my moment of reflection today. I aim to bring more educational content to my page. Wishing you warm connection and awe.
