It’s been a tough 💸fundraising💸 environment for founders.

This is especially true for first-time and underserved founders who may have odds stacked against them without a built-in investor network, vocabulary, and resources. Female founders raised just 2% of VC funding, and Black founders received only 0.5% last year...

So, I’m sharing my 🔟 lessons learned on fundraising ops to engineer a competitive process, TL; DR:

  1. Qualify the investors that you want for your startup
  2. Build investor relationships ahead of your raise
  3. Hunt down the warmest intro within your network
  4. Treat fundraising like a full-time and timeboxed job
  5. Channel the investor mindset in overpreparing for your pitch
  6. Evangelize your gems in every meeting — and protect your risks
  7. Optimize for maximum face time by dripping just enough materials to get you that next meeting
  8. Create a surround sound effect to keep your startup top of mind
  9. Keep calm, remember to diligence and negotiate thoroughly
  10. Be kind

Read on, and shoot me your lessons — would love to add them in here: https://lnkd.in/g9sj6nbD

Big thank you to Sam Gerstenzang and Claire Pan for their inputs. Fun fact: I met them both via cold emails (can confirm, they do work).
