An Inspiring Session with Anupam Mittal at WIRC of ICAI
Yesterday, I had the honor of moderating a session at, WIRC of ICAI, where Anupam Mittal, the founder and CEO of Shaadi.com and People’s Group, was a guest speaker. His insights on entrepreneurship and startups were truly inspiring.
A story behind Shaadi.com:
I asked Anupam about his early journey when he was working in the USA and traveling to Mumbai. He shared an interesting story that led to the creation of Shaadi.com. When relatives would ask him about his marriage plans, he once joked to an uncle, "You know about 100 Ristas, but I need to find that one in a million." This idea eventually became Shaadi.com, which started as Sagai.com and is now a top matrimonial site worldwide.
Advice for Chartered Accountants:
I also asked him how a Chartered Accountant (CA) can start a business, given the risks involved. His advice was reassuring: "As a CA, you already have a strong foundation and security. If your business doesn’t work out, you can always rely on your CA qualification to get back on your feet."
On startup valuations today:
I couldn’t resist asking about the current state of startup valuations—is it real or just a bubble? Anupam pointed out that in 2021, there was so much easy money available that startups often invested in non-essential areas. Now, some of them, like Baiju’s, are facing financial challenges despite their high valuations.
The future of India’s growth:
Finally, when I asked about India’s future in the global market, Anupam was very positive. He believes that in the next 5-6 years, India will lead in the tech and startup sectors, thanks to the incredible work of our entrepreneurs.
It was a privilege to speak with Anupam Mittal and learn from his experiences. His journey and insights are a great source of inspiration. Anupam Mittal #Motivation
