Helping Fintechs Execute Growth Strategies

Bill Kinnelly, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in executive product roles at fintech vendors, established KGA Advisory 9 years ago to assist fintech vendor clients in achieving 2-5x growth strategies.

KGA Advisory works with both incumbent and emerging fintech vendors such as Fiserv, Finastra, ACI, Transactis, and Bridgeforce Data Solutions, offering proven methods and best practices to overcome growth execution challenges.

KGA clients often face hurdles in executing growth strategies due to focusing too little on buyers' needs and too much on software, leading to costly one-off deals.

Bill Kinnelly's expertise spans across areas like wholesale payments, financial crime, merchant processing, cards, ACH, wires, real-time payments, fraud, AML/KYC, issuers, lenders, and more.

He holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Marketing from the University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School and a BS in Finance & Computer Science from Georgetown University.

Prior to KGA Advisory, Bill held various leadership positions including SVP of Product Management & Marketing at ACI Worldwide, COO at Retail Decisions, and CEO at KGA Advisory LLC.

He has also contributed as an Advisory Board Member at ARDVRK Technologies and a Summer Founders Advisor at the University of Delaware's Horn Entrepreneurship.

Bill Kinnelly's effective strategies have helped clients like a leading financial crime solutions provider bring multiple products to market and close deals swiftly, revitalizing their competitive edge.

This post by Mohammed Akuma, CFA from EY-Parthenon describes a framework for FIs to make fintech partnerships successful, https://lnkd.in/eS_cZTPt. Such partnerships are increasingly prevalent, but are performing below expectation, as his post points-out.

The same applies when fintech vendors partner with each other to serve FIs. It has long been the case that vendor-vendor partnerships are easy to establish and hard to get right. The root causes and best practices to ensure long term partnership success are similar to those that Mohammed describes. The fundamentals of Banking-as-a-Service continue to change rapidly. Synapse’s failure is the latest development.

No issue has been more of a driver than concerns about the ability of BaaS FI’s to manage the compliance risks of its fintech customers. This recent article in the American Banker, https://lnkd.in/eeTU4YWC focuses on 3rd-party risk management. More responsibility is being put on the fintechs to ensure the FI can meet its compliance responsibilities.

But the fintechs should not sit idly-by while this gets further defined. FI third-party risk management guidance issued by the supervisory agencies last year (https://lnkd.in/evxiEXgs), while not limited to BaaS, is clear enough for fintechs to be proactive.

They can prepare a package of materials that any BaaS bank will require to onboard the fintech. Additionally, they can put ongoing processes in-place to provide the ongoing material the bank will require.

There are a wide range of tools that can help the fintech standardize this. For example, Gartner publishes this list https://lnkd.in/ef4sfKPu. Some are useful for managing BaaS-specific relationships.
