It was an exciting start to the GenAI Summit, San Francisco 2024, coined: IGNITING THE AI REVOLUTION IN THE HEART OF SAN FRANCISCO. When it started this morning, the event was packed to capacity and full of energy.
With its rich history and spectacular architecture, the event started warm and sunny at the Palace of Fine Arts near San Francisco Bay. Befit with the location and historical precedence and nearby views of the Bay (and some say the best sailing in the world!), SF Mayor London Breed further emphasized that San Francisco is the ‘AI capital of the world’ that the Mayor confidentially declared in 2023.
The lead event sponsor was the Microsoft AI Co-Innovation Lab, whose experience spans 850 engagements and sprints. IBM and Amazon Web Services (AWS) were also top tech sponsors.
From an enterprise perspective, the future directions for #RAGs, #RAFTs, and #SLMs seem to be the topic of the day – and not so new in that large enterprises have always been in a great position to leverage their internal data, customer data, and domain knowledge to their advantage – though many large enterprises struggled and needed help with the digital transformation that could lead to impactful business transformation. Another era change -- from the Internet Era to the Digital Economy / Mobile First / Platform Economy era to the AI Revolution era (and quickly to the Net Zero Era) – great fun to figure this all out!
Today, I attended the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) Seminar: Presenting the 2024 AI Index, presented by Nestor Maslej, Research Manager and Editor in Chief. Brilliant presentation, Nestor!
As in prior years, the report is a powerful, comprehensive, and insightful lens into the state of AI, benchmarks, implications, and opportunities. Based on diverse prospectives, the initiative includes an impressive Steering Committee and research partners like Accenture and McKinsey & Company.
Steering Committee co-directors are Jack Clark, Anthropic, OECD - OCDE, and Raymond Perrault, SRI International. The additional Steering Committee members include:
Erik Brynjolfsson, Stanford University, DEL/HAI John Etchemendy, Stanford University, HAI Katrina Ligett, Hebrew University Terah Lyons, JPMorgan Chase & Co. James Manyika, Google, University of Oxford Juan Carlos Niebles, Stanford University, Salesforce Vanessa Parli, Stanford University Yoav Shoham Stanford University, AI21 Labs Russell Wald, Stanford University
Stanford HAI's mission is to advance AI research, education, policy, and practice to improve the human condition.
In the spirit of Stanford HAI's mission and the growing consensus that we need to shape the future of AI collaboratively, the report is supplemented by raw data, high-res images, and an interactive tool.
When I worked at Capgemini's Global Innovation Hub in San Francisco, we became the first corporate affiliate member of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab / HAI. We highly leveraged the insightful and impactful AI Index Report internally and, more importantly, engaged with our global clients in shaping their future.
Congratulations to all the contributors!
