Brown University’s Department of Computer Science is a gem. Its security and ML scholars are world-class. It was a honor to work with them as well as kind and brilliant classmates from diverse fields (software, military, government, law) to earn a ScM in Cybersecurity (Computer Science). Though I finalized this ScM back in December, they kindly let me walk the stage today. My focus at Brown was on the safety and security risks of AI: a necessary bridge to my current PhD work at Cambridge. Thanks everyone for this opportunity. 🙏

For the Cambridge CS Lab’s PhD and MPhil students, I taught a highly distilled version of the Productizing Machine Learning (PML) course that I teach at Cornell Tech. Compressing 13 hours of content down to 1 hour meant cutting to the bone, but we were still able to cover:

1️⃣ High-level productization methodologies for AI/ML: What should the overall product journey look like in this domain?

2️⃣ Lean prototyping of AI/ML: We want a minimalist prototype that we can use to validate with users before building out an MVP. What are some clever ways to do that, given that AI/ML (still) tends to be rather investment-heavy?

3️⃣ Staying neatly aligned with the validated use case across all phases of the AI/ML dev lifecycle (data collection & prep, eval, deployment, etc.).

I’d like to teach a few more of these miniature versions of PML while I’m home in New England, USA, over the summer. I am especially interested in teaching them at other CS departments and labs (so that I can also meet potential research collaborators while there). The sweet spot for this miniature version, I reckon, is ~2-3 hours rather than 1 hour. 🙂
