Thank you Pinterest Japan for hosting me in Tokyo. It was great spending time with the team and meeting with local leaders to talk about the opportunities in the market and internationally. Pinterest is more global than ever and I am proud of our Japan team’s execution and focus in such a dynamic and growing market.
Like countless others, I'm heartbroken that Susan Wojcicki has passed - for her, for her family, for all those who she inspired, and for the billions of people who have benefited from products she led, created and shaped. I am grateful to have known her as a colleague and as a friend.
Susan's accomplishments as a brilliant technologist and leader are too numerous to list. Stated simply, if you've used the Internet over the last 25 years, you were likely benefiting in ways you wouldn't have known from things she helped build.
But far beyond those accomplishments, she was an inspiration to so many and especially those lucky enough to know her and work with her. She was a major reason I joined Google. I was struck not only by her amazing intellect but also by the way she led and cultivated others. Despite being CEO of a platform with billions of users and a devoted mother of 5 children, she seemed to always have time for others and was tremendously giving. I remember that every time I met with her, before we could talk about shopping on Google and YouTube or anything else, she wanted to know how my daughter was doing and would share thoughts about parenting that were just as insightful and impactful as her views on product. In fact, one of the most significant ways she inspired me was how she thought about building YouTube in a way that she'd want it to work for her own children. From the way she thought about bringing educational content to the platform to trust and safety issues and the creation of YouTube Kids, she saw it not only through the eyes of a brilliant technologist but also through those of a loving parent. I carry that with me every day when I think about the way that we build Pinterest
Thank you Susan for inspiring me and so many others. You were an amazing light in this world and you will be deeply missed.
