The Brown Stair is designed to teach the concept of thick and thin. It demonstrates to the child the change of width while the length remains the same. A child can also feel the weight of each piece in relation to the size.
The Red Rods develop a child’s awareness of length as they discriminate between long and short.
Both of these materials not only introduce mathematical concepts to our toddlers but also mathematical language like “longer, longest” or “thicker, thickest”. These materials also help develop fine motor skills, concentration, and gross motor skills as a child must carry each piece of material from the shelf to their rug.
