Fantastic example of NJ Transit's TOD efforts that will revitalize the Hoboken terminal and surrounding area. A complex, public-private partnership that required collaboration and support at the state and local levels along with NJT and LCOR. I'm proud to have pushed to get this project off life-support and onto it's current path. Congratulations to all involved in seeing this through.
Good article regarding the need for Federal government support for public transit operating expenses. Not well known and rarely discussed: "in the late ’90s, Congress eliminated federal operating assistance, which covers salaries, for agencies in areas with populations larger than 200,000 people...Larger areas can get money only for capital projects, which made the Covid-19 relief funds — which did cover operating expenses — unique."
Ms. Rennert, senior research associate at the Urban Institute, said advocates for better transit are continuing to put pressure on Congress to “meet what is very obviously the demonstrated need.” She added, “This issue is not something that transit agencies can solve by themselves.”
