Earlier this week, The Baltimore Banner presented The Banner Revealed, a moderated discussion and Q&A with two reporters and their editors about stories making headlines and impact. Audience members heard from Kimi Yoshino, our editor in chief and managing editor Andrea K. McDaniels. Enterprise Reporter Julie Scharper was interviewed by Local News Editor Norman Gomlak about their series chronicling the pattern of workplace abuse and sexual assault perpetrated for years by the manager of Gunpowder Falls State Park. Yoshino interviewed Immigration Reporter Alissa Zhu and Audience Engagement Editor Krishna Sharma; the pair detailed their food desert expedition and reporting from West Baltimore.

The event gave our readers, supporters and community members an inside look at how the news is made, what it takes to delve deep into a difficult story, and why impact matters to the people that deliver the news. This is the first in a series of Banner Revealed talks that will run throughout the year. Stay tuned for details on the next event set for May 23rd.

It is an honor for me and my team to support The Banner newsroom’s outstanding work! Nonprofit local news making an impact and serving communities & citizens is what we are all about.
