This kinda blows my mind... I learn from the Slate Money Podcast that K-Pop is an initiative of the South Korean government, to create Korean culture they can export around the world. And it's working! K-Pop is a big success and acts are breaking through all over the world. Imagine the U.S. government funding a pop music project. What would a government-sponsored band look like?

Promo pros sometimes have the privilege of working on the “A” material, the juggernaut, the high-stakes, high priority show… but more often are tasked with helping out that “lesser” property, the runty one, the one that is struggling a little in the crib, just trying not to get crushed. These are the ones that need more love, more nurturing… the little ones that you can often have MORE FUN with. I once worked on promoting “The First Annual Miss Dog Beauty Pageant” on Fox. This was no Scorsese production (but it did win an Emmy for costumes!). Nothing survives from those days but my memory that it was a gas to work on “Miss Dog.” I’ll take your unloved runts!
