It’s been four months since I entered the job market, and it’s certainly been challenging. Competing with hundreds of other applicants and not hearing back from hiring teams has been humbling, perhaps even a bit disheartening. Here’s are my takeaways for #jobseekers:
- Continually remind yourself of your value and worth. Your career is not defined by this period of unemployment. You have many accomplishments and valuable contributions to offer. - Leverage your network. The old adage “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know” still rings true today. Reaching out to colleagues is not a sign of weakness. Even if it makes you feel scared and vulnerable, people want to help people. - Take care of yourself. It would be easy to fall into a dark funnel of depression and apathy. Develop a daily schedule that consists of job seeking, exercise and fun with family and friends. - Be patient. The right job is out there. Hiring managers are overwhelmed with volume. They are not vindictive, they are human. It’s important to put positive thoughts and energy out into the universe no matter how frustrated you are, because getting mad doesn’t help.
I am seeking a new role in growth marketing and bring over 15 years of demand generation and marketing strategy experience. Thank you in advance for any connections, advice, or opportunities you can offer. #OpenToWork
My father sometimes struggled balancing work and family. At the time it didn’t bother me, but I made a deliberate choice many years ago that I would find a better balance, which I’ve done.
Happy Father’s Day!
