I’m looking forward to joining Audrey Robertson, and Dessa Bokides as a panelist speaker this Thursday January 19, 2023 in Denver. During this session, CFOLC-Denver Chapter members and registered guests will be discussing topics on how to attain a board seat.
Discussion Topics Include: ➡ How to get started? Do’s and don’ts in finding the best role for you and selling your skillset. ➡ What to expect for compensation, compliance and risk ➡ Private vs Public (briefly touch on non-profit) ➡Cash vs Equity
From a Board Member’s perspective: ➡What are the traits of a good board member ➡What is “good conduct” in a board member and the right level of involvement

At this month’s The CFO Leadership Council – Denver Chapter event, one of the discussion topics, which is also on the list of the top 20 things a successful CFO should be thinking about, was establishing a system to track key performance indicators. A few take aways from the conversation can be found below:
➡ The CFO drives profit and improved results whereas accounting keeps score of the numbers; a rockstar CFO says here is your performance, shows world class benchmarks, then asks what it would take to get 10% - 20% closer to world class. From this base, develop metrics to drive towards this efficiency. ➡ The CFO prioritizes what work needs to be done, but the leaders of functions need to drive that change within their groups. 🚫 Avoid telling functional leaders what to do, this can create issues within the organization. ✅ Instead, make it clear that this is an important number; get them to own and focus on the number, let the functional leaders push the goal downward to the staff level to drive the results needed; they need to own it. ➡ Key is to first track the information needed to drive accurate KPIs, define the metrics that drive performance. Show them the metric, then ask questions. ➡ Focus on being a finance partner, not necessarly the person who has to solve the problem.
