Highlights
I got a $6k check when I quit Microsoft thanks to 180+ hours of unused PTO.
I was in my 20s and actually didn't know they paid you for unused vacation so that was a JACKPOT.
When I started as a freelancer, there was no PTO so I worked around the clock to save enough money for time off. And it was razor-thin back then so there wasn't much. I worked every vacation we took.
Now as an entrepreneur, it's an odd kind of reprogramming you go through when it comes to vacation.
Right before I left, my therapist mentioned that I might be addicted to work.
It makes sense.
I was first to graduate from college in my family.
I am my family's breadwinner and only working parent.
Hundreds of people rely on me as a CEO.
I'm programmed to need to work. And I'm good at it. And I like it.
As a champion of flexibility, I had actually never considered I might be working too much.
That's why this 3-week, 4-state, 6-stop RV family vacation has been so impactful.
Now, I believe that there should be valuation multiples added for founders who are able to step out on vacation for extended breaks. It takes an incredible team, strong values, clear decision and delegation criteria, and a shared purpose.
I'm so so lucky to have a team that has my back so I can walk with this amazing 3-year-old goofball down the boardwalk at Yellowstone with my full heart and mind.
Still officially out of office for the rest of the week, folks, then gotta ship a few kids off to school. Savoring every last moment! 🌞
P.S. Thank you again Lions & Tigers team!! XOXOX💛 P.P.S. Anyone know where this is in Yellowstone? Bonus points!
I’m starting a new position as Angel Investor at FBomb Angels! We're investing in PNW women-founded startups - could that be you or a bud?
I’m a bootstrapped founder but I recognize this business model isn’t right for everyone. That’s why I’m jumping into angel investing this year to advance the agenda of economic access for under-represented founders.
I’m so lucky to get to learn about investing while actually investing thanks to the brilliant model created by Megan McNally. FBombAngels is a community where women learn about and practice investing in early stage companies, together.
Introducing: Pitches 2 Bitches 😜
If you're a woman in the early stages of building a scalable company with a meaningful connection to the Pacific Northwest, apply for the most wildly supportive business competition where women entrepreneurs pitch their startups to women investors for all the glory and $100k.
Entrepreneurship isn’t an individual sport.
Let’s not do it the way it’s always been done - it’s a lot more fun with friends who get it. (Swearing encouraged)
Tag folks who should apply! LFG!!!
