One final, belated holiday season story.
I ordered some Christmas gifts for my brother and father. I moved states earlier this year, so I listed my parents’ place — where I’d lived prior to moving, and where I was visiting for the holidays — as the shipping address.
Guess who forgot that he still had USPS mail forwarding from the parents’ address set up? When the first package wasn’t delivered, I called the Postal Service and they politely informed me that the packages had been forwarded to my new address. At this point, I was already back at my parents’ place. It was a sinking feeling to realize that the other two packages, still in transit, were likely also headed to the wrong destination. Guess my family members won’t get their gifts for a couple weeks thanks to my mistake.
A day later I get a call on my cell, and it looks like the USPS number again. I answer. “Mr. Burns, we have a package here in your name. Which address would you like us to deliver it to?”
So someone at United States Postal Service 1) saw package with my name on it, 2) recognized that I had submitted a non-delivery ticket earlier in the week, 3) remembered that I had said that my mail forwarding had caused an issue for a previous package, and 4) looked up my phone number to just to check with me. I didn’t fully process this until after hanging up, so I didn’t thank the employee nearly as profusely as I should have. This was truly going above and beyond! Thanks, #USPS!
