Breno Freitas is a computer scientist based in Ottawa, Canada with a diverse academic background and a passion for tackling creative challenges. He completed a 4-year Computer Science course in Brazil and furthered his education with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de S\u00e3o Carlos, an Associate's degree in Information Technology from FIEC, and another Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Toronto at Scarborough.
During his academic journey, Breno excelled in various programming contests and had the opportunity to broaden his horizons through a study abroad program at the University of Toronto. He also gained valuable research experience as an undergraduate research assistant at the prestigious University of Waterloo, focusing on topics like non 3-colourable non-cubic graphs and Tutte's 4-flow Conjecture.
Breno's enthusiasm for crafting beautiful solutions led him to contribute to a UX/UI project at his home university in Brazil, where he played a key role in designing the interface and system architecture of an app targeting children and elderly people. His exceptional skills were recognized through nominations in design contests and his personal website.
With a strong mathematical foundation, Breno's research endeavors have been noteworthy, earning him recognition for the best 2015 undergraduate research project by the Brazilian Computing Society. He furthered his expertise by obtaining a Master of Science in Computer Science, specializing in Machine Learning, where his focus was on classification methods and Information Theory.
In his professional career, Breno has held key roles in various organizations, such as his current position as a Senior Data Scientist at Shopify. His previous experiences include roles as a Data Scientist and Front End Developer at Shopify, along with positions as a Software Engineer at Kajoo Smart Solutions and World Tech Makers. Additionally, he has gained valuable experience as a Software Development Intern at Codeminer42, a Research Assistant at the University of Waterloo, and a Web Application Developer at Madricomp.
