A serious warning to small business owners and freelancers:
Under the Corporate Transparency Act (“CTA”) created under the Biden administration, small business owners will be fined $500 per day if they fail to comply with an additional federal filing called the "BOI". This is described as an attempt to prevent money-laundering.
As a small business owner, I feel that entrepreneurship is a foundational part of the American dream. Small companies are the lifeblood of our local and national economy. We need leadership in this country to support the small business owner, rather than create additional administrative toil in the form of excessive filings. The fine for non-compliance is so extreme ($500/day), it will surely bankrupt thousands of small businesses that may not even be aware of this new hurdle.
If you agree with me and feel that this IS NOT how we encourage the entrepreneurs of this country to start a business, then please help make this a talking point in the upcoming election. This is not a partisan issue, and I am not telling you how to cast your vote. But whoever you choose, let's make sure they are not creating even more filings and administrative burdens at the federal level. I just spent $300 to file my company's BOI, and there was zero information that our government doesn't already have (name, address, and EIN number). What a tremendous waste of time, money, and resources.
