This week, I'm excited to be showcasing an installation at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh at their new Fungi Forms exhibition. I've created a biosonification rig that will let visitors tune into the sounds of various fungi in realtime!
"Brian d'Souza's Mushroom Music installation uses a process called 'biosonification' to convert bioelectricity from fungi into sound. The installation picks up minuscule changes in electrical current and feeds this biodata into the synthesiser to produce an audible sound. Brian hopes that by listening to the fungi, we will form a new relationship with the mycelium network all around us, hidden in plain sight."

You can also check Mycorrhizal Fungi - our mushroom music release on A State Of Flo from earlier in the year. We have a few copies of the scratch n sniff vinyl left! > https://lnkd.in/eEPPgUJZ
I had a fantastic time at the Symbiocene Summit at the weekend where I was tasked with 'biosonifying' OmVed Gardens - translating the language of the plant ecosystem into sound.
I use a device that converts the bioelectrical signals from the plants in the garden into sound and then route those signals through my modular synthesiser. The plants are communicating and we should be listening!
Using this process is such a beautiful and immediate way of breaking the barrier we've created between ourselves and the natural world. 🌷
Thanks to Kalpana Arias and the team for producing such a wonderful event!
