Happy 97th Birthday to the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” Ms. Opal Lee! She is a sweet and remarkable lady. It was an honor to celebrate with her and to deliver a letter from Sen. Cornyn marking the occasion.
U.S. Senator John Cornyn (TX) has been the lead author of a resolution honoring Juneteenth each year since 2011. Moreover, with Ms. Opal’s support, Sen. Cornyn led legislation in the Senate to establish Juneteenth as a new federal holiday—legislation that was signed into law in 2021. See here: https://lnkd.in/ggpxy4MQ
America is at its best when it lives up to its ideals. The road to becoming a more perfect union isn’t easy and hasn’t been perfect, but #Juneteenth is a way to celebrate when we as a nation get it right.
#OpalLee continues to be a driving force behind the National Juneteenth Museum, set to open in Fort Worth’s Historic Southside District by June 19, 2025. More than a museum, it will also serve as an economic catalyst for a neighborhood that had been overlooked.
Thanks Jarred Howard for the invitation to celebrate with y’all, and for your leadership at the National Juneteenth Museum. Great things ahead! https://lnkd.in/gGAABuSy
