It's been a while since my last update, but I'm back with some exciting news.

Righteous Eats has been nominated for The Webby Awards for our social content series, SavorNYC, which highlights the mom-and-pop eateries that make New York City great.

I'm asking y’all to vote for us, as we're up against heavy hitters like Gordon Ramsey, Jennifer Garner and publishers Allrecipes.com and Simply Recipes, Inc., both of whom are owned by America's largest print and digital publisher, Meredith Corporation.

It's a long shot that we can win but so was our nomination when you consider:

  1. Righteous Eats wasn't designed to be a business - Jaeki Cho and I started it as a way for us to help local eateries struggling during the pandemic.

  2. We're bootstrapped - no outside funding, no marketing, no media distribution.

  3. We aren't food SMEs and we didn't have any restaurant industry connections.

  4. Our team is tiny. (5) We started our SavorNYC partnership as trio with iPhones.

*fwiw I'd put our programming, strategy, output, and reach against any of the larger teams at the publishers that I was working for as an exec 🫶🏻

  1. It's all counter-programming. The food media landscape when we started was dominated by spectacle, price, celebrity chefs and 4K bokeh recipes. We decided to slow things down, go deeper and do things very differently.

  2. We’re only a year old! Our "Official" Righteous Eats social channels were launched on April 13, 2022.

Let's show the world what a small, independent team can do when they're driven by passion and purpose. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.

A huge thanks to the entire New York City Tourism + Conventions team (f/k/a NYC Go) Janette Roush, Rachel Tomlinson, and especially Adam Kuban, who was the first to believe in us and made the partnership happen.
