Over the past few weeks, we've been migrating email. During the process, I gained insight into the sheer volume of messages flooding people's inboxes.
Email can quickly become a productivity black hole and make us believe we can multitask effectively. That ding and a "quick check" can turn into an hour lost, and our focus shifted. Each new notification and email (many of which we don't need to be on) represents a theft of time, focus, and, ultimately, the potential to do our best work.
This insight initially led to me ranting about email (very therapeutic) before evolving into something more useful around how task switching steals your time and sanity.

I can't tell you how often I've shared a "well-thought-out" idea only to get a blank stare in return.
We spend all day inside our heads, having perfectly logical conversations with ourselves. Then we start talking or, even worse, send a message and assume everyone has been listening to our internal brilliance. Surprise! Surprise! They haven't.
That gap between what we think about and what we actually say aloud? It's the reason we feel so confused when things get twisted around. That feeling of "But I said it perfectly clearly!" pops up for everyone.
Awareness of that gap, of our internal soundtrack, can make a huge difference. A quick mental check-in to ask, "Am I assuming they know this already?" can prevent a lot of confusion.
Real communication takes effort – it's not about who's right but about being understood.
I thought I'd share some strategies from my internal soundtrack to make those conversations, emails, and meetings smoother in the article below.
