Highlights
“If at the end of the day, you can’t say ‘I helped this person’ or ‘I created an opportunity for this person’ …. you wasted your day.” - Ann B. Walker, 6/18/24
In honor of #Juneteenth, Battelle hosted Ann B. Walker to share her experiences, and reflections on the meaning of Juneteenth.
Ann, a native and resident of Columbus, OH, is a woman of many firsts: the first woman in broadcast management in Columbus, the first woman broadcaster to report on the Ohio legislature, and the first Black woman from Franklin County to receive a presidential appointment. Above all else, she is a woman of empowerment whose lifelong mission has been to open the door for at least one other person.
And while it was Ann’s voice that projected through the speakers at 505 King Ave. today, what spoke just as loud were the voices that had been silenced throughout history, speaking through her.
🖤🤎
This Juneteenth, I invite you to join me in commemorating the holiday by 🤝🏽 creating a meaningful opportunity for someone in a marginalized position, and 🔊 giving life to the silenced voices by educating ourselves about the history and legacy behind Juneteenth.
