Year after year Cycle for Survival makes my heart explode. The worst thing you can hear from a doctor is “There’s nothing else we can do.” Each year I fundraise for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center because I hope one day that is something rare cancer patients won’t have to hear anymore.
Next week will be five years since my dad passed from rare cancer. I wish I didn’t have to, but honoring him in this way helps me process how much I miss him. And it brings me hope that with every dollar going to research, someone else won’t have to feel a gaping hole in their heart like I do.
I am humbled by your support. Thanks to many of you, this year I raised $15,514 that goes 100% to rare cancer research. Wow wow wow. Over five years, you’ve supported me in raising $63,069 which blows my mind. As a whole, team wheelin for healin has raised $94,012 in the past five years which is something I am so so so proud of. Every donation, every message, and every bit of support from you means the world to me.
Every dollar raised leads to better patient outcomes. The reason certain cancers are considered “better” to get is because they have been well researched so there are more treatment options. I can’t wait for us to break $100k next year❣️
Big-hearted people! This March, I'll be participating in my fifth Cycle for Survival, a fundraiser for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This April also marks five years since my dad passed from rare cancer.
As some of you know, I lost my dad, Beau James, to rare cancer in 2019 after his diagnosis only six months prior. Rare cancers include brain, pancreatic, ovarian, stomach, and some pediatric cancers, among others. Even though rare cancers account for about half of all cancer diagnoses when combined, research is drastically underfunded, often leaving patients with limited or no treatment options. I fundraise for this cause year after year because I want patients and families to have more options for the people they love. Thanks to your generosity and support, Team Wheelin' for Healin' has raised over $66,000 together since we started fundraising in 2019! I'm unbelievably proud of this and I am so grateful for your support. This year, I've set my goal to raise $10,000 for rare cancer research. Every single dollar counts. Seriously. If you donate even one dollar, that helps! 100% of the money raised through Cycle for Survival goes to research, not administrative costs. And it's fully tax-deductible! Losing my dad is the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I can't believe it has been almost five years. I miss him every single day. In some ways, it gets easier but in others, it gets harder. As time goes on I've learned how to navigate my grief but more things have happened I'm not able to share with him. I ride and fundraise because I miss my dad.
