The CHIPS Act, passed with bipartisan support and signed into law two years ago today, is an important step toward leveling the playing field for American technology leadership. Once implemented, this historic policy will strengthen America’s national and economic security and global technology leadership by bringing more leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing to the U.S. Two years since the bill was signed into law, these priorities are as urgent as ever, and we look forward to working with the CHIPS office to expedite the timely distribution of funds.
CHIPS funding is an essential component in a public-private partnership to invest in America’s future. At Intel, our investments to expand U.S. chipmaking capacity and capabilities are well underway. We are making significant progress across our U.S. projects:
Arizona: Construction is on track with plans to bring Intel 18A into high-volume manufacturing at Fab 52 next year. New Mexico: We officially opened Fab 9, our new advanced packaging facility, in January of this year. Ohio: The Ohio One campus has been under continuous construction since breaking ground in 2022. There are more than 2,000 workers on the site daily, and we recently celebrated the delivery of the third of our four ASU cold boxes. Each superload, topping the scales at over 900,000 pounds and measuring about the size of a football field. Oregon: In April, we installed the world’s first high-numerical aperture extreme ultraviolet (High-NA EUV) lithography tool, which is the most advanced lithography technology available.
More to come as we continue to build a more resilient and sustainable semiconductor supply chain!
It was an honor to speak at The Aspen Institute’s 2024 Aspen Security Forum! This year, I announced Intel Corporation’s continued commitment to collaborative efforts like the Coalition for Secure AI (CoSAI), alongside @Google’s @Heather Adkins and @Leigh Palmer, @Anthropic’s @Jason Clinton, and @IBM’s @J.R. Rao. As a founding member, Intel looks forward to working together to foster a collaborative ecosystem to address secure AI development and deployment. I also joined The Project on Workforce at Harvard’s Chike Aguh, Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates and Indiana Department of Education’s Katie Jenner for a critical conversation on fortifying America’s future. Together, we will work to rebuild America’s education system to train a skilled and ready workforce, and to create a more resilient supply chain. At Intel, we’re investing in our people and in workforce programs across the country to meet the needs of the growing #semiconductor industry.
