Highlights
Enhance diversity in STEM graduate student populations through the GEM Fellowship Program
Over the past 18 years I learned that many faculty and staff in higher education do not know about GEM and the GEM Fellowship Program.
GEM is a consortium of companies, national labs, and universities that want to have more diverse populations of graduate students in STEM MS and PhD programs:

You can begin by looking at the website, seeing what universities belong, and what companies and national labs participate.
Undergraduate and graduate students can apply between July 1 and early November each year for MS and PhD fellowships. Companies select the GEM Fellows, and universities independently admit students to MS and PhD programs.
It was a distinct privilege to be the GEM University Representative at Northwestern University for 18 years and to serve on the GEM Board of Directors for 10 of those years.
I will be pleased to work with students in the application process and/or to discuss GEM membership with universities, companies, and national labs.
GEM was immense help to the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University as we moved from approximately 30 underrepresented minority PhD students to nearly 120 in the span of those 18 years.
Bruce A. Lindvall, PhD Retired Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies McCormick School of Engineering
Although I retired in November 2023, I am happy to share that I have authored a book, "Applying for Graduate Admissions in US Engineering Schools" that is available through Amazon Books and Kindle. Also, at no charge to prospective students, I am willing to help them in the application process when they write to me at [email protected].
After 18 years in a graduate admissions role in the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University, I want my legacy of helping students continue their education at the MS and/or PhD level in engineering.
I am deeply committed to helping develop a more diverse graduate student body and will be pleased to help US citizens apply for the GEM Fellowship:
