Warning: This is another "non professional" post from me.

UPDATE: I believe that both Pres. Magill and Board of Trustees chair Scott Bok did the honorable thing by resigning. And I am thrilled that the Trustees have named interim president. Dr Jameson and board chair Julie Platt. I hope that they can begin the healing on campus that can then spread farther.

I have been deeply saddened by the actions and words of those who lead Penn, my alma mater, this Fall. And even more these past few days. So, I just finished deleting Penn from my education profile here on LinkedIn. You might have gotten some kind of LinkedIn note about it, so I figured I should explain.

I realize this is an underwhelming way to demonstrate my heartfelt support for my dear friends and colleagues from Israel or with Jewish heritage in this exceptional time of grief and loss. For that matter, I am equally heartfelt in my support of my dear friends and colleagues from Palestine or with Palestinian heritage who are also profoundly grieving and losing.

I have been so encouraged, and proud, of those who are speaking out for non violence and peaceful resolutions to this very real conflict. I simply have nothing to say that I believe will help. So I have been quiet. And this is pretty quiet too.

If you too are an oxymoronic Fighting Quaker, perhaps together we can key in on our Quaker heritage, and appeal to quiet protest, without violence - even of words. The real life Quakers have shown us the way before. https://lnkd.in/gHr-9Wnw

What if those of us who are often silent turn away from the school in a quiet way? Consider sending a message in your own way, quietly. And maybe that includes deleting our fair Red & Blue colours from your profile.

To amplify and paraphrase (and butcher) our motto: laws, words & leaders without morals are vanity.

I've been pretty quiet on here the past year or so. Also quiet out there. No shows. No conferences. No darkening of most of your doors. For several reasons. But mostly because I almost died. And I know LinkedIn isn't really about the personal stuff. But professionally, that really (really) impeded my ability to be very professional.

HOWEVER, I can use LinkedIn to celebrate the masterful and professional work of the good people UT Southwestern Medical Center that kept me upright and operational here on the surface of the planet. Ironically I doubt any of them use this thing. Someone please let them know their names are in lights.

Dr. Michael Jessen is the exceptional cardiac surgeon who put a new heart valve in me. He doesn't need me to say this, he's a wizard with saws and blades. Dr. Elizabeth Brickner is the incomparable cardiologist for people with genetic heart defects who figured out what was wrong and got Dr Jessen to go ahead and fix me.
Dr. Weiyi Tan is the interventional cardiologist who scoped me, and cleared me for more cheese fries. I am such a fan. Also, this man knows excellence. Dr. Robert Toto made sure I kept my one kidney ... kidney-ing. That's a thing. Dr. James Daniels must have done something. I am sure. But regardless is a dear friend. And I hear a pretty darn good Electro-physician (!?). Even though I neither want nor need a pacemaker. Nor do I follow the Jayhawks. Does anyone? (what is a jayhawk? what is an "electro-physician"?) Nurse Practitioner Pam Soyebo keeps me on the straight and narrow, and in good stead with next steps and responsibilities. And so so many pills. The cardiac rehab team single handledly (albeit with many many wonderful people) brought me back to some semblance of shape and vigor. And the fantabulous Nurse Joesheena Rempis makes sure my blood is thin and my spirits high.

And although he doesn't practice at UTSW, Dr. Adam Kaplan literally set all of these fine folks in motion. I owe him my life.

If you found this post to be just a bit too much for LinkedIn, blame David Birch and his duck posting. https://lnkd.in/gT_vCHYk

If you didn't. Well. Drop me a line. It's been too long.

And if neither option suits, stay tuned. Modo is launching our new thing soon. I'm tired, but excited. Literally came up with it laying in the hospital bed. Not kidding. We want to save you some money. This saving thing is cool.
