#URGENT. #SHARE. IMPORTANT. I am addressing this message mostly to some of my own colleagues of the United Nations – Secretariat, Agencies, Funds and Programmes – and to ANYONE ELSE whether you are a humanitarian, human rights professional; especially to those who have, for whatever reason, remained on the sidelines and have been SILENT on what is going on in #Palestine, Gaza mostly, but also increasingly the West Bank these days.
Not sure what will move you, and make you voice out publicly your support (in an entirely unofficial, private and personal capacity or NOT) for our UN colleagues and innocent civilians, babies, boys and girls, who have been killed by #Israel in violation of International Humanitarian Law. Most of them were killed by air strikes, while others were subject to sniper fire and other lethal methods.
Whether out of humanity, altruism, decency, goodness or your own self-preservation or selfishness – as an example – see the clearly marked UN humanitarian vehicle — part of a convoy that had been fully coordinated with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) — that was struck TEN times by IDF gunfire — including with bullets targeting front windows. This time, our two colleagues in that vehicle remained alive. Several of you have ridden in those UN vehicles. So, for whatever reason, I encourage you to STOP REMAINING SILENT. Advocate for Peace, a permanent #ceasefire, and adequate and unimpeded access to humanitarian supplies. Accountability and justice will probably have to wait a bit longer.
P.S. I think there are things more important than your privileges, salaries and pensions. And I truly believe that if you, dear UN Colleagues, would have been in the situation of our UN Colleagues in Palestine (including those who have been killed, several together with their families), you, your families and loved ones, would have appreciated, that other UN colleagues, strangers and others advocate for YOU! PEACE.
