Byung-Cheol Min
Associate Professor at Purdue University
Byung-Cheol (B.C.) Min is an Associate Professor at Purdue University, where he also serves as the University Faculty Scholar. He leads the Smart Machine & Assistive Robotics Technology (SMART) Lab within the Department of Computer and Information Technology. Dr. Min is a roboticist specializing in robotics technologies with a focus on multi-robot systems, human-robot interaction, and robot design and control.
Dr. Min received his Ph.D. in Technology from Purdue University after completing his M.S. in Electronics and Radio Engineering and B.S. in Electronics Engineering at Kyung Hee University. Prior to joining Purdue, he held a postdoctoral fellow position at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Min's research aims to address real-world problems in robotics by combining practical and theoretical approaches.
His notable achievements include receiving the NSF CAREER Award in 2019, the Purdue PPI Outstanding Faculty Award in Discovery in 2019, the Purdue CIT Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award in 2019, the Purdue Focus Award in 2020, and the Purdue PPI Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration Award in 2021. He was recognized as a Purdue University Faculty Scholar in 2021. Dr. Min led the Purdue-Hongik Team as a finalist in the NASA Space Robotics Challenge Phase 2.
Dr. Min's research projects have been supported by various organizations including NSF, NIFA, NIJ, UNSA, and Purdue University. He has a strong publication record with over 20 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 50 peer-reviewed conference papers. Dr. Min has been actively involved in the academic community, serving as an associate editor of the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) and organizing workshops to foster collaboration in human-friendly co-robotic technologies between the US and Korea.
With an education background that includes a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Technology, an M.S. in Electronics and Radio Engineering, and a B.S. in Electronics Engineering, along with practical experience as a former Enlisted Soldier in the Republic of Korea Army, Dr. Min brings a diverse skill set to his research and teaching endeavors.
