While working from home, I’ve noticed more men walking alone or with their partners, holding babies or pushing strollers in the middle of the day...

It got me thinking about my experience growing up with a father who worked away from home. During the week, he would leave before I woke up and wouldn’t get home until 6:30 or 7:00 PM most nights. I barely got to spend time with him during the week!

Now, with my husband working from home, he has the opportunity to be more involved in our children's lives from morning until night. He’s available to get them ready in the mornings and pick them up from school for sneaky ice cream trips and river dips before dinner, creating core memories with them.

I’m very grateful that both my husband and I work in the tech industry and that his company and my company, Elastic Path, have a fully remote structure, which allows both of us to spend more time together as a family.

For those who get to work remotely, or have a generous hybrid policy, what has your experience been like being at home with your family more often? What are you doing with the time you would normally spend commuting? How does this differ from how you grew up? #remoteworking #hiring

At Elastic Path we passed an important milestone.

We unlocked a new level of Pay Transparency.

With new legislation from many US states and in British Columbia, Canada, forcing companies to post salary ranges on job postings, we knew we had to support our employees through this transition and decided to continue our pay transparency journey at Elastic Path.

Last year we embarked on our initial pay transparency phase.  We rolled out our Compensation and Total Rewards Philosophy which ensured our employees were fully aware of all our inclusive and flexible benefits that support our employees to thrive and do their best work.  We also gave our employees information about our salary data, where it comes from, and how it’s used during our annual compensation planning process as well as our job levelling framework.  Building from our initial phase of pay transparency helped us embark on the next phase more seamlessly.

For this next phase, we focused on the following pillars:

-Our employees had more information about their own compensation  -Access to information about the new compensation terms in our internal wiki -Employees understood more about our external pay ranges, how we created them and why -Our People Leaders were prepared, supported and enabled to speak confidently to answer their employees' questions on compensation

Feedback from employees and People Leaders has been positive, with employees especially feeling more grateful to have this additional information about their pay.

As the project lead, I couldn’t have rolled this out without help from a number of people on my P&C team, People Leaders at Elastic Path and our external partners at White & Gale, in particular, Claire who has been a great sounding board during this process.

I’m excited to see where this new level of transparency takes us!
