My 2023 Reading Challenge: 59 Books in 52 Weeks 📚✨

2023 marks my 5th year of reading at least 52 books, a habit that has been immensely beneficial for my professional and personal growth. Here are some of the standout books from the second half of the year:

  • "The New Map: Energy, Climate, and the Clash of Nations" by Daniel Yergin (thank you to Chase Kania for the recommendation). Yergin's perspective on how energy has shaped 21st-century geopolitics was particularly intriguing.

  • "Radical Candor: Be a Kickass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity" by Kim Scott. The insights on leadership and management communication resonated with my consulting experiences across various company cultures. So often, the key driver of friction within a companies culture stems from management's communication style and the ripple effects it creates.

  • "Poverty, by America" by Matthew Desmond (thank you to Susan Wang for the recommendation). The book's revelations on how societal systems can exploit the vulnerable were shocking and thought-provoking.

  • "Ultra Processed People" by Chris van Tulleken. This eye-opening read has changed the way I approach grocery shopping and made me rethink my lifestyle choices. I would recommend reading the book in the way the author suggests.

  • "Everything Sad is Untrue" by Daniel Nayeri (thank you to Gabby Lee for the recommendation). Nayeri's blend of personal history with Persian mythology and storytelling was moving, making me laugh and tear up as he wove his memories with tales from 'One Thousand and One Nights'.
