We had a powerhouse team this morning in Rye Brook at the The Business Council of Westchester Conference Room.
Linda Tyler - Vice President of Membership and Jill Singer hosted us along with Pam Newman!
Our panel of Kerry Flynn Barrett (she/her), MS, SHRM-SCP, Maria M. Trusa and Dwayne R. Norris shared some amazing takeaways!!!
Maria M. Trusa spoke about owning the space with an awesome power walk through the room!!! Authenticity is important for brand and more importantly for connection. Tell stories connected to your business! Maria M. Trusa talked about the importance of eye contact, while speaking, listening and connecting authentically.
Kerry Flynn Barrett (she/her), MS, SHRM-SCP spoke about listening and followed up on one of Maria's points about looking people in the eyes to connect on a deeper level!! She talked some tactics for learning people's name as you are working the room. Say the name of the person you are being introduced to. Use it three times in context with who they are or what they do to really enhance your memory of people's names.
Dwayne R. Norris (who I met today in person for the first time - and look forward to connecting with more especially on education for youth!!!) Dwayne R. Norris spoke about the importance of curiosity in your networking. Giving was a common theme of the morning and Dwayne emphasized trying to deliver something of equal or greater value when speaking with potential partners and customers. Dwayne also mentioned his Mentor's teaching from Dr. Dorsey and the importance of 3 things in networking:
- Chemistry: Do you get along well?
- Fit: Are you in businesses with some kind of synergy? (Cameron's note people should be very creative with this)
- Timing: Availability / Time to focus / People may not have the bandwidth
Be intentional. Be Authentic.
It was an awesome meeting and it was great networking with Beatriz Seifert, Rick Keifer, Modou Cham, magaly ariela st-vil, Jennifer Beato, Zachary Brand, and John Leone.
