Camiel J.F. Boon is a highly accomplished individual with an impressive educational background and extensive experience in the field of Ophthalmology.

Camiel completed his secondary education with outstanding performance, studying cum laude at R.K. Gymnasium Beekvliet, Sint-Michielsgestel.

He furthered his academic journey by achieving a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.

Professionally, Camiel holds the prestigious position of Professor of Ophthalmology at Leiden University Medical Center, where he imparts his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of medical professionals.

Prior to his current role, he served as a Professor of Ophthalmology at the AMC - Academisch Medisch Centrum, showcasing his versatility and adaptability within the healthcare landscape.

His career has seen him excel in various roles, including Consultant Ophthalmologist and Retina specialist at Leiden University Medical Center, where he specialized in treating complex eye conditions.

Camiel has also been associated with the European Board of Ophthalmology as a Fellow, demonstrating his commitment to staying at the forefront of advancements in his field.

His international experience includes positions such as Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellow at Het Oogziekenhuis Rotterdam and Ophthalmologist at the University of Oxford, where he focused on Vitreoretinal Surgery & Medical Retina research.

During his academic journey, Camiel gained valuable experience as an Ophthalmology Resident at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, further solidifying his expertise in the field.

His research interests have led him to pursue a Ph.D. focusing on Hereditary retinal disease at Radboud University, showcasing his dedication to advancing the understanding and treatment of ocular conditions.
