Highlights
My emotions have been all over the place the last week. I am outraged, angry, and saddened. It's been a challenge to go back to business as usual. For many, it's not business as usual and nor should it be. Reach out to your Black colleagues and check in on them. They're hurting and in pain. Especially if you're in a leadership position, make sure they know they're supported.
I'll never forget this participant's comment during user testing for a B2B ordering platform 3 years ago: "I feel like they built something for a need I don't have." About 40 customers were interviewed during this study, most of whom echoed a similar sentiment.
Millions of dollars and countless hours were poured into this new platform. It was beautifully designed, easy to navigate, and easy to use. But the company missed the mark. UX research can uncover user needs and lower the risk of users not adopting or resonating with your product. UX research helps to ensure that not only are you building the thing right (i.e. easy and enjoyable to use) but that you're also building the right thing.
