A growing number of people aged 50 years and older are living with HIV and represent an important population around the world. Current data indicates that over 50% of people living with HIV in the United States will be 50 and older by 2030, an increasing number living into their 70s and beyond thanks to advancements we’ve seen in antiretroviral therapies. As people with HIV live longer, they not only face the expected challenges associated with the natural aging process but may also experience significant challenges decades before their peers not living with HIV. I’m so proud of the work Gilead is doing to meet the unique needs of people and communities, including programs focused on improving the quality of life and health for those who are aging, like HIV Age Positively®. In 2018, Gilead launched the HIV Age Positively program to address the lack of attention and resources for these individuals and to directly support community-based organizations working to improve health outcomes for older Americans. Since inception, we’ve provided almost $36 million in grant funding to 42 organizations working to reduce stigma and improve quality of care for older adults with HIV. By supporting community-driven solutions and impactful and actionable programming that can help address the differentiated clinical and societal needs of people aging with HIV, Gilead and the HIV Age Positively program helps to address quality of life needs and care for people aging with HIV. Learn more about the impact of the HIV Positively grantees. Some of the program grantees are featured in the cover image of this post.
And we are committed to doing more. More listening, more learning and more collaborating.
