Highlights
The axe has fallen.
After taking a couple of days to absorb the news, I'm here along with 12,000 others to announce that I was laid off from Google on Friday. I won't belabor the how (plenty of other accounts out there), except to say that it feels like being a useful hand suddenly amputated by a robot.
I do want to take this space to thank my colleagues—you made my return to Google so worthwhile, and I deeply appreciate everything I've learned from you and what we built together. I'm sad that I won't be there to continue that work, but our team is a stellar example of what can be done when people show up in their full humanity. I hope you take some time to absorb the layoffs yourselves—it's equally hard to be the people who remain, in my experience.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out—it means the world and I'll be in touch if I haven't been already.
To anyone I've worked with before, I'm available and actively looking for my next position—ping me if you're hiring or know about anyone who's looking for a technical writer.
