Casey Finnell
Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services
Casey Finnell is currently the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Success at Lindenwood University, a position she has held since August 2016. She began her tenure at the university in July 2015 as an academic coordinator before being promoted to her current role. In this capacity, Finnell oversees academic support and development services for over 600 student-athletes, supervises the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and created the Athlete Mentor Program (AMP) in 2017 to foster connections between incoming freshmen and upperclassmen mentors across different teams.12
Finnell has a strong background in both athletics and education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts with dual majors in Spanish and Journalism and Mass Communications, as well as a minor in Leadership Studies from Kansas State University. She also holds a Master of Science in Counseling and Student Development from the same institution and completed her Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis on Instructional Leadership at Lindenwood University in 2022.123
Throughout her career, Finnell has been recognized for her contributions to student-athlete development. She received the Professional Excellence Award from the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) in 2018 and has facilitated at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum. Her commitment to enhancing student-athlete experiences is evident through various initiatives she has led, including workshops focused on personal and professional skills development.12
Before joining Lindenwood, she worked at Stephen F. Austin State University as a tutor coordinator and was involved in academic support services for several Olympic sports. Finnell's early career included roles at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and coaching positions at Kansas State University, where she was also a student-athlete on the NCAA Division I Equestrian Team.12
