Thanks WellSpa 360 for revisiting my article on traditional "thermotherapy" or heat treatments. With so much attention being put on hot/cold contrast therapy these days, I wanted to offer a resource that explores the various ways people have been heating their bodies up over centuries. Saunas and steam rooms were initially invented to give people a comfortable way to cleanse when running hot water didn't exist, but they have evolved into so much more. Today, hydrothermal areas offer a uniquely pleasurable way to congregate while taking in the therapeutic effects of hot/cold contrast therapy. The effects of extreme changes in body temperature do more than simply cleanse; they work the body and mind in incredibly powerful ways, including increasing circulation, releasing tension, giving the body functions a positive jolt and, ultimately, snapping the mind into the present moment.
