My law partner, Buzz Portune, has (mostly) retired and now volunteers his time assisting immigrants with their paperwork - Visas, green cards, and new citizens. He has been dedicating his time to this pro bono work for over five years.

A few months ago, a family of Nepali asylum seekers sought his help. This was a unique situation because both parents are deaf, and could not communicate except through an at-home sign language that only a few family members knew. They arrived in America over a decade ago, and relied on their extended families for help for many years. The parents look to their oldest son for support. Buzz enlisted me to help establish guardianships for both parents with their son as guardian, in order to apply for citizenship.

It was a long process, with frustrating hurdles. But today, Buzz and I are proud as peacocks because Dad, along with nineteen others, became a citizen!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 . . . #constitutionday2022 University of Dayton School of Law and Foos & Lentz, LLP
