What would you advise a young person to learn as a second language?
This is a really interesting look at which language different countries would like to learn as a second language. There is also an interesting breakdown of the languages English speakers would choose based on their ages.
I was very surprised to see that Chinese was 5th or 6th among English speakers.

I was just about to do a little mini-rant.
Fake profiles are extremely annoying so I appreciate the efforts being made to try to shut these down. Has anyone seen @LinkedIn's "encouragement" to get your account verified as your profile will apparently get seen 60%(?) more if your account is verified. (Does this mean we are being blocked if we aren't verified?)
"Great", I thought, "I'll do that"
But, hold your horses, its not that easy.
I look at how many friends/colleagues I have who
- Use nicknames - Bob, Chris, Charlie, Jamie, Tony, Sue, Annie, etc
- Spell names differently due to accents being typed differently on official documents (e.g. "ü" becomes "ue")
- Many women use maiden names for business but have changed ID documents etc
- Lots of small companies haven't done the Verified by Linkedin step yet so their employees can't use that.
So you folks in categories 1 - 4 above can forget it.
Well you could before.
I have just tried to do it again - and although it says that your name has to appear EXACTLY like it does in your passport (and I fall into categories 1,2,3 & 4 above I was pretty sure they couldn't mean this bastardisation of the name that appears officially in my passport) - lo and behold, the little tick has been added to my profile.
Mini rant turns into mini-Mexican wave!
Although, I thought I would feel differently, more like I had been knighted or some such. Maybe I will go and make myself a little tick on a chain to hang around my neck at important events.
Or just because its Wednesday.
