Highlights
Closing the week with #goodnews: “Borrowers across the globe are tapping the over $5trillion #sustainable bond market at the fastest pace ever, with full-year sales set to challenge the record $1.1 trillion issued in 2021.” Today someone asked me if the anti-#esg is impacting the #sustainablefinance market. Very pertinent question. I shared that in Europe the market has been resilient. Financing the #transition towards a low carbon, more sustainable economy is a clear priority. Not just because it is the right thing to do. But because - as #blackrock highlights in their recent 2024 Global Investment Outlook - the low carbon transition is a ‘Mega Force’ that drives major investment opportunities, resulting from a reshaping of “how people buy, sell, make and move things.” Hopefully in the future to these factors we will add - ‘and how people value #nature’. Today’s market data on Sustainable Bonds demonstrates that financing opportunity. Happy to be part of such an exciting space at a leading team and organization, supporting issuers go to market with strong sustainability credentials #bnpparibas #sustainablecapitalmarkets

In 2024, #generative #artificialintelligence is set to continuing disrupting life as we know it. While is difficult to wrap our heads around the implications, we should collectively strive to mitigate the many (and still unknown) risks, but also to harness the many opportunities AI brings. Was happy to read this balanced blog by Xhois Hatibi and Nhung Nguyen focusing on some of the risks and benefits of AI by looking at Environmental, Social and Governance dimensions. Risks include massive #energyconsumption and impacts on #privacy, #cybersecurity and #job loss. Opportunities on #resourceefficiency, real-time #monitoring of ecosystems and supply chains, #disease prediction and #drugdiscovery. Personally, for AI, Yuval Noah Harari has been my compass when looking for the risks beyond what one can see. Governance and vigilance will be crucial.
