Climate Policy Advisor - Applying scientific expertise to benefit society
Dr. Catherine Pomposi is an accomplished interdisciplinary climate scientist specializing in climate science with a keen focus on public policy and program management.
Currently serving as an AAAS Executive Branch fellow at USAID's Innovation, Technology, and Research (ITR) Hub, she plays a pivotal role in enhancing the Agency's initiatives to optimize resources and leverage scientific expertise for improved development outcomes globally.
In addition to her role at USAID, Dr. Pomposi serves as a technical expert at the Center for Environment, Energy, and Infrastructure (EEI), where she identifies strategies to mitigate vulnerability and risk to climate variability, advocates for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supports climate adaptation initiatives to foster resilient communities.
Previously, she contributed significantly as part of Senator Kamala D. Harris' energy and environmental policy team, spearheading water resource management and climate adaptation legislative priorities.
Dr. Pomposi's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences with a focus on Climate Science from Columbia University, a Master's Degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences, also from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Analysis and Statistics from The University of Connecticut.
Her professional journey encompasses roles such as Policy Advisor at USAID, Legislative Fellow at the United States Senate, Postdoctoral Research Scientist at UC Santa Barbara, and Graduate Research Fellow at various prestigious institutions.
