Catherine Robertson

Novelist

Catherine Robertson, born in 1966, is a New Zealand fiction writer known for her romantic comedy novels, which have frequently topped the New Zealand bestseller lists.147 She spent her childhood in Wellington, later lived in San Francisco and the United Kingdom, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Victoria University of Wellington.17

Robertson's career includes roles as a magazine feature writer, advertising copywriter, and business consultancy owner.47 She also took a creative writing course in California and at the International Institute of Modern Letters (IIML).27 Her first novel was published in 2011.17

Robertson is the author of The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid (2011), The Not So Perfect Life of Mo Lawrence (2012), The Misplaced Affections of Charlotte Fforbes (2013), The Hiding Places (2015), Gabriel’s Bay (2018), What You Wish For (2019), Spellbound (2021), and Corkscrew You (2024).1457 The Hiding Places earned her the Nelson Public Libraries Award for New Zealand Fiction in 2015.137 Some of her works have been published in Germany, Italy, and France.47

Robertson reviews contemporary fiction for various publications and is a regular guest on Radio New Zealand’s The Panel.1347 She has been a speaker and chair at literary festivals, and was a feature author at the Frankfurt Book Fair.147 Additionally, she teaches creative writing in prisons.48 Catherine was also the recipient of a Creative New Zealand grant in 2016, which she used to write a biography about her mother.14

Catherine has served as Chair of the New Zealand Society of Authors Wellington Branch.1267
