Highlights
I just learned that I was named one of Forbes’ "Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors, Best-in-State.” As I process this, it's important to note someone who paved the way.
Mom,
I remember back in 2000, in the midst of a move from New York City to Providence, Rhode Island, you seemed more stressed than normal. When I had snow days and sick days, we spent mornings watching cartoons, but never missed the market bell ring at 9:30. In 2007, family dinners started a little later because you were working longer. We watched Brian Williams warn of potential economic catastrophe on the nightly news. I could see you were worried about our friends, family and people losing their jobs. I never understood what you did for work; to me you made wealthy people wealthier. I was wrong.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was nervous, but you were ready. It made me understand what you were doing behind the scenes: keeping our clients calm and reassuring them that their portfolios could withstand a one in a lifetime event. I learned that our job is not only to help our clients grow their wealth, but more importantly, safeguard it.
The Forbes’ Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors Best-in-State list is just as much a quantitative as it is a qualitative list. The quantitative "wins" of our team are simply defined. Last year, The Nulman Group was a top ten grower at Hightower and our assets have doubled since you and I joined forces. Our team is responsible for this growth. Megan keeps the team and the clients organized so nothing is missed or forgotten. Hunter keeps the portfolios well-oiled and running. They are instrumental to this recognition.
The qualitative aspect of winning the award sets each advisor apart, and for me it was philanthropy. You encouraged me to start learning philanthropy and finding a way to give back after years of being ill, but lucky enough to find care. In high school, I found the High Fives Foundation and 15 years later it's changed my life. When I joined their Board 3 years ago, it was the most gratifying and humbling honor. Two years ago, when I received the “Young Professional of the Year” award from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, you were there in attendance as we celebrated, while tying a bow on 20 years with the disease. Had it not been for that guidance on giving back, I would have missed out on so many life experiences.
Our clients are the roots of the success. You always preached the idea that the client-advisor relationship is built on trust, not paper returns. The good years we seem like geniuses, but so does everyone else. When the bad years come, as you always say, "they inevitably do," is when we earn our stars. It has been a privilege to work with such different families and solve their financial situations.
Being one of the top 1,464 advisors recognized under the age of 40 in the country ain't bad, and top three in the state? Who would have believed that would be achieved…besides you?
Thanks for everything, Mom.
Richard
It’s great to see others succeed, but when it’s someone you consider family, there’s nothing better. I met Gal Elbaz on a bus in Israel 7 years ago, as an ethical hacker for CheckPoint. Since then, we’ve explored the East Coast, Mexico City, numerous trips to Israel, and now we conquered the North Pole.
He always dreamed of having his start up, and believed he could change certain aspects of cyber security. Now, he, Nadav Czerninski, and Avshalom Hilu are growing the fastest start up cyber company in Tel Aviv. It’s amazing to watch all of his their dreams become reality protecting open source data for the largest companies in the world. Honored to be an investor, but proud to call him one of closest friends.
For those in the market, keep an eye out for Oligo Security, they’re changing the game!
