It's hard not to be smitten by the title - "Things are not normal."
Um, yes.
But beyond the title, there are other things to love about this report. (link in comments)
The BBC set out to investigate technologies that would shape their future operations, and instead found a set of complex factors and rich insights that became a broader look toward the future. The report includes, and goes beyond, technology.
What I loved:
The report is based on interviews, reflecting my own bias toward primary data in futures work. Multiple quotes from interviewees place the report's conclusions within a vibrant, immediate and relevant context.
"A divided world" was a chapter of the report that left me with lots of new ideas to consider - like the power of media industries and why local strategies are key to certain sectors (hello, international development). Super interesting and some things I had not thought about before.
The final chapter, A Case for Hope, left me with some optimism, again based on snippets from the interviews.
