Highlights
Thinking out loud today:
The average Healthcare System CIO tenure is slightly below 4 years (this seems to be the average # of years across a few different publications) yet we are seeing CIO searches take between 6-8 months, sometimes longer. Can someone explain to me why?
-
Why are we still following this archaic "House Hunters" syndrome of executive placement where we continue to have Pappy Van Winkle expectations on a Jack Daniels budget (sorry but yes, I'm a bourbon guy).
-
Why do we continue to want our digital leaders to be in a confined location (aka relocate) but yet we expect them to be at the forefront of geographic agnostic solutions like the Digital Front Door, Remote Patient Monitoring, Hospital at Home and everyone's favorite, cloud-first solutions. Not to mention, Health Systems continue to expand across multiple state lines through mergers and acquisitions.
-
Why do we continue to spend millions in new or first-time technology but rarely ever give someone their first chance at being an executive.
-
Why do we continue to complain about staffing shortages or the perceived "lack of talent", but we do nothing to actually build the talent pool.
Again, just thinking out loud...
There are a lot of people hurting right now as they have lost their job. As someone who has gone through that (more times than I care to admit), it sucks. You feel helpless. You feel worthless. You feel like you have failed yourself, your family, everyone. There isn't a whole lot I can honestly say that would make you feel better.
What I can do, however, is help as best as I can. I've been blessed to have been helped my so many amazing friends and colleagues over the years, it's time to start paying it back. So, considering that LinkedIn is supposed to be a NETWORKING platform, I want to offer this: my entire network. Please, if you are hurting and trying to find work, feel free to review all of my contacts (shockingly I actually know most of them!). Feel free to reach out directly to me and ask for an introduction. Feel free to send me an email (I keep it in my contact section of my profile) to connect, to chat, to ask questions or even if you just need to vent.
As for my network, please know, I will reach out to you if asked. As a member of the LinkedIn community, this is why we all originally signed up for it: to network, to meet people and share ideas, to search for new opportunities. If this isn't the reason you are on here or if I have offended you with this post, by all means, go ahead and remove me as a contact. I won't be mad and certainly won't harbor any ill will. It's just clear that we joined for different purposes, and that is ok too.
I wish you all the best of luck on your journey and I am sorry I didn't do this earlier.
