Rabbi Chanan Chernitsky, the CEO of Chabad of Newfoundland in St. John's, has a diverse background rooted in Jewish studies and community service.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Rabbi Chernitsky moved to Winnipeg, Canada with his family at the age of 13 and later pursued his Jewish studies in various locations.

After completing high school in Winnipeg, he furthered his education at the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, New Jersey, and the Rabbinical Academy of Venice, Italy, where he obtained his rabbinical ordination in 2012.

In November of that year, Rabbi Chernitsky married his wife Tuba in Winnipeg before relocating to Montreal. They eventually settled in St. John's, Newfoundland in February 2017 to serve the local Jewish community, expanding their outreach to the general public through diverse programming.

One of Rabbi Chernitsky's significant initiatives since April 2019 involves spearheading a campaign to introduce a 'Moment of Silence' in schools across Newfoundland and Labrador, with the aim of fostering a reflective practice among students.

In February 2021, Rabbi Chernitsky embarked on a new venture by launching his own podcast called 'Positivity Boost,' where he shares insights and inspiration with his audience, showcasing his commitment to spreading positivity and wisdom.

With a background in pastoral care and teaching, Rabbi Chernitsky brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role as the Director of Chabad of Newfoundland, actively engaging with the community and promoting cultural understanding and education.

His journey from Argentina to Canada, through various study locations, reflects his passion for learning and sharing knowledge, shaping him into a respected leader and advocate for inclusivity and personal growth.
