Chantel Chizen

Chantel Chizen is a dedicated PhD student at the University of Saskatchewan with a strong focus on soil science. Her research interests encompass various areas within the field, including wetlands, soil carbon, soil salinity, digital soil mapping, pedology, and soil conservation. Her current doctoral research revolves around investigating wetland carbon storage in the Prairie Pothole Region of North America to enhance estimates of soil organic carbon in these environments. Chantel's academic journey began at the University of British Columbia where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree before pursuing a Master of Science in Soil Science at the same institution, specializing in greenhouse gas emissions from potato fields in Delta, BC. Throughout her academic pursuits, she has honed her skills in data visualization and statistical analysis using tools like R. Beyond her academic endeavors, Chantel actively engages in volunteer work with organizations promoting environmental conservation, STEM education for K-12 students, and advocating for women in STEM.
