Charles Best is a highly accomplished professional with a strong background in education and non-profit work. He studied Bachelor's Degree in History, American Studies, and Teacher Preparation at Yale University. Additionally, he received education at St. Paul's School. Charles Best has been involved in various organizations, serving in leadership roles such as Board Member at Equal Justice Initiative, Chief Executive Officer at Lakeshore Learning Materials, and Advisor at multiple organizations including Daffy and Form Energy, Inc. He has also been a Keynote Speaker at Gotham Artists and held Board Member positions at DonorsChoose, BMe Community, GuideStar, and iMentor. Prior to these roles, Charles Best founded and served as CEO of DonorsChoose. He also has experience as a Social Studies Teacher at Wings Academy, a Bronx public high school.

Lakeshore has been growing at an awe-inspiring pace over the last few years and now has 3,300 employees, 61 retail stores, distribution centers in Kentucky and California, and even an on-site preschool for employees’ children. It’s such an exciting challenge to help them reach even greater heights!
I’m especially grateful to be able to spend this year working alongside Lakeshore’s longtime and beloved CEO, Bo Kaplan, as I immerse myself in areas that are new to me, such as manufacturing and physical retail.
I'll be moving from crowdfunding to making the learning materials that teachers most want for their students (and moving from New York to L.A.) but I’ll be re-enlisting in the effort to equip and enrich classrooms across America. I can’t wait to join my Lakeshore colleagues in developing new ways to help educators, families and kids share the joy of learning!
