Highlights
Had an interesting conversation with a colleague about the Kodaly Concept and its application in the AP Theory Classroom. Folk Songs are a great way to teach and introduce concepts like scales/intervals, triads, seventh chords, modes, and believe or not, young people enjoy singing them! Folk songs connect students to earlier music learning (elementary) and also their cultures. I have even played games associated with these songs with my students and they enjoy it! Simply put: Sound to Symbol works in the choir room and the AP Theory Classroom.
The High School Choirs in Hays CISD came together to perform Schubert’s Mass in G and it was a great experience! Leo Garcia (Lehman HS) and Courtney Vielma (Barton MS) sang as soloists. Tanna Bills (Johnson HS) helped with teaching music, logistics, and coordinating rehearsals the day of our performance. Blessed to be a part of an amazing team of Music Educators!
